Asthma
Asthma is a condition that plagues many children and adults. I see this regularly in Dallas and one of the first things I have my clients do is eliminate cow dairy from the diet. This is a common trigger and it is best to eliminate it and see what happens.
Acupuncture is a great way of managing asthma whether it is chronic or acute. In acute cases, I have seen immediate results with just a few properly placed needles. It is always amazing to see someone's breathing change the second you hit the right spot.
In chronic cases, acupuncture and herbs are in my opinion the best alternative to steroidal inhalers and prescription meds. Usually there is an underlying kidney deficiency pattern of imbalance and when corrected the condition will significantly improve.
Energetically the kidneys exert a firming, consolidating force on the vital substances of the body and one of the main extensions of this force is the “rooting of the breath deep into the body”. In oriental philosophy, the breath is how the body draws in and circulates qi and it is through the strength of the kidneys that the breath is properly rooted.
