Chronic Back Pain
Whether or not the back pain lingers from an acute episode or has come about over time, Chinese Medicine is very effective in managing symptoms. Basically, acupuncture is great for pain regardless of the cause or location. This is not to say that it is 100% effective because nothing really is, but it is safe to say that if you have back pain you should give acupuncture serious consideration.
With many of my clients who have chronic back pain, be it upper or lower, we use a combination of acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion, infrared, and perhaps some shiatsu, although not all in the same single treatment.
With back pain we always have to ascertain the factors involved. Meaning, is it a muscle problem? Are there structural concerns involving the spine or discs? Or could there be inflammation? Perhaps one or more of the organs is at the root of the problem. All of these things can be ascertained by a Chinese Medicine practitioner. What we don’t do is just treat symptoms. We seek to bring resolution by treating “the root”.
Of all the things I see in the clinic, chronic back pain is definitely the most common and most of my clients experience significant relief from the pain.
