Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy is a passive form of bodywork that is an offshoot of osteopathy. The therapy aims to correct problems by optimizing the movement of the cranial wave, bones, fluids and tissues through very gentle and precise contacts. The cranial wave is a physically palpable current that flows through the entire body. This energetic current comes from the sacrum and occipital bone acting as a pump for the movement of cerebrospinal fluid up and down the spine and throughout the cranial vault. The cranial wave truly acts as a wave would, it ebbs and flows through the body, advancing and receding, keeping the bones of the cranial vault in a constant state of flux.
Anything that is in a constant state of motion has the capacity to get stuck. This is where cranial work is brilliant. Being a passive modality, one which does not force a manipulation upon the body, it allows the inherent self correcting mechanisms of the body to come online. This often leads to lasting change and great relief from a multitude of symptoms.
As these rhythms and waves move through the body there is an integration of the emotional/mental/spiritual bodies into the physical. Sometimes, it seems that the unconscious mind bubbles up to the surface during the treatment facilitating deep rest and mind body integration.
